(219) Kenny Rogers と Kris Kristofferson がTexas Medal of Arts Honor
インターネットで、昨日からTexas Medal of Arts Honorの受賞者決定のニュースが出ている。テキサス出身でカントリー歌手のKenny RogersとKris Kristoffersonが選ばれた。2月21、22日にテキサス、オースチンのテキサス大学で表彰式が行われるということだ。
In Internet News, Country Music Hall of Famers Kenny Rogers and Kris Kristofferson are being honored by their home state with the Texas Medal of Arts awards. The awards will be handed out February 21st and 22nd at a two-day event held at the University of Texas in Austin.

Kenny Rogersは元々はスタンダード歌手でデビューしたという話を昔に聞かされた。Dolly Bakerが”Gambler”がいいと言って、カセットに入れてくれた。タイトルは知らなかったが、よく耳にした歌だった。GamblerというLPが出ていたが、この盤はケニー・ロジャースの代表盤になっている。

Kris Kristoffersonなんて私には縁のない歌手と思うでしょう。それが、彼の1969年に書いた”Sunday Morning Comin' Down”という歌をDolly Bakerが私に会う度に歌ってくれた歌なのです。それで私の身体に沁みついた歌なのです。

Dollyが生きていたら一番に伝える話です。そうか、天国にメールしてやりましょう。

At first, Rogers debuted as a standard Jazz singer. Long time ago, Dolly Baker used to say "Gambler is a nice song" and made me a cassett tape of this song. The Albumn "Gambler" bacame his signature record.



Kristofferson wrote a country song titled "Sunday Morning Comin' Down" in 1969. Dolly Baker had continued to sing this song for me everytime we met. So this song soaked into my brain.
