Billboard誌でHit Chart #1となった曲のリストを10数年前に見つけて、ファイルにして取ってあったものが出てきた。1930年代から1990年頃まである。年代別にまとめてお目にかけましょう。
面白いのは、名曲なるものが生まれた年に必ずしもヒットするわけではないことが分かることである。古い歌のリバイバルもあったりする。先ずは30年代から。

”And The Angels Sing”の作曲はZiggy Elmanというグッドマン楽団のトランペッターだが、専属歌手マーサ・ティルトンがレコードを吹き込む1年前に”Fralich
in Swing”というタイトルで作曲した。これにJohnny Mercerが歌詞をつけて”And The Angels Sing”と改題した。
”Over the Rainbow”は映画オズの魔法使い（1939年）の主題歌だが、書かれたのは前年でジュディ・ガーランドの吹き込みも38年である。
